how are you 40 years old and not know how stainless steelcookware works

stainless means it won't fucking rust not that you can't polymerize oil into it

My mother leaned in to the housewife domestic martyrdom and kept kitchen work to herself, then they skipped me to “Computer 2” in middle school because they thought I was smart (it was really a typing sequence and I didn’t know how to type) and that screwed up the rest of my (not really) elective cycle so I never had Home Ec, since then I guess my pans were either coated or cast-iron?

i've grown up learning that stainless steel is called so because it is resistant to rust and oxidation. it can still very much be stained by other things.

I can see why that would be the criteria that makes for the important, standard type of steel encountered in end-user applications, but couldn’t they have called it “rustproof steel”, or “rustless steel”, like Harry Brearley did? Or “chromium steel”, like how Billy Joel fits the meter in Allentown?

kudos to everyone who recommended Bar Keeper’s Friend, but even with that it took several rounds of hard scrubbing with heavy grade steel wool

Like my whole life I thought it was weird always hearing about “stainless steel” and if it had turned out this was the regular version in action I would be like “ohhhhh”, but this is stainless steel!
