Facebook starting out life as a trendy place for college students to see who’s dating who feels supremely alien now, like learning how TGI Friday’s started off as a cosmopolitan single’s bar so trendy it had a red rope queue out front

Learning there’s an entire term for that kind of place, “fern bar”, since they always decorated with ferns and fake Tiffany lamps and brass everywhere and like

It’s wild how before my lifetime that look was associated with particularly horny bars and I’ve only ever known it as the look of casual family restaurants that began as particularly horny bars
