Got a new bathrobe that’s lighter but warmer than the thick one I’ve been using copies of since the early ‘90s, reflecting the way fabric quality’s actually got significantly better since China got Most Favored Nation trade status (which just means “as good as the best” and is appropriated by agents wrangling over Hollywood contracts for costars), they undercut our existing clothing infrastructure and domestic industry had to go more value-added.
I remember Oshkosh B'Gosh overalls were a thing in children’s clothing in the '80s, and it’s cause clothing was insufficiently durable that children’s use could often destroy it through staining and tearing, so a denim outer-garment had appeal. (Largely the same appeal of blue jeans, which were work clothes before their 1960s normalization)
