So thinky former Angelino confession: I found Los Angeles Plays Itself utterly forgettable and when I finally read City of Quartz years in it was ::wanking motion::. Part in how the both the city as he described it and the frame he brought to it were so particularly early-90s. This is the LA era that Snow Crash was riffing on, remember.
