Guess I’m kinda in a Yglesias mode of “if the Democrats can own a brand of good stewardship and general prosperity they’ll be able to reclaim the ‘natural party of government’ title, but they need to accept that matters concerning the broad nation are supposed to be addressed through the electoral system, a system heavily dominated by older voters who are interested in continuity in its own right”, except with a conscious sense that if the Republicans do take power, either merely immediately or as prelude to a multi-decade hegemony, I can work that too
