Question reblogged from MONETIZE YOUR CAT with 19 notes

kontextmaschine asked: Thing about neoreaction is how much the stakes are the internet itself. Curdled cyberlibertarians who took Web 1.0 as liberation from structures now value implicit structure of white male STEM-profesh hegemony. Bourgeois and democracy all over, social minorities as the mob, 2.0 brands that are willing to sacrifice cultural character and turn schoolmarmish to maximize audiences of clicky eyeballs as int'l capital. Of course reaction from that. Not all lived through it, but hey hey jeunesse doree.

i feel like we’re in a shrinking minority for understanding the weird, frenzied, apocalyptic libertarian hardon for web 1.0 and having an unsettled but knowing viewpoint of how the same right-wingers who dreamed of perfect liberty on the internet now dream of perfect hegemony mediated by it instead

Which explains the bigger betes noires of 2.0 goodthinkers - Reddit is an attempt to port the Web 0.0 of USENET to 2.0, so it averages out; 4chan is basically a preserve where the institutional memory of 1.0 could survive long enough to coexist with 2.0, make the self-other distinction, and develop a self-awareness that allows for conscious dedication to a formerly implicit project.
