Anyway now that I’m reminiscing about flying, in Flying magazine there was a regular feature summarizing FAA crash reports, and most of it was Goofus-style Don’t Do This stuff but often there’d be a morale-raising one of a pilot who got dealt a bad hand and played it well.
“Low-speed crash into trees” is more common than you’d expect ‘cause a lot of airports are carved out of woods and a lot of crashes happen on takeoff or landing, and I just remember this one guy was going down and he aimed his plane between two big trees cause it would stop the momentum without crushing the fuselage by instead tearing off the fuel-laden wings
