When a naval vessel sinks in battle with the loss of some hands, what are the trends of who escapes and who survives? If it’s based on shipboard location, have there been any efforts to put high-value and more difficult to replace personnel in more survivable locations for that purpose?

  2. theresponseblog said: any ships that sank with many survivors sank slowly enough that nearly everybody got out who wasn’t killed in the initial hit.
  3. theresponseblog said: as far as I can tell, most modern naval combat sinkings involved explosive destruction of the ship and nearly total annihilation of the crew, with so few survivors that statistics are basically meaningless
