Damn, someone I tangentially knew my age just died of alcoholism. Like, not as in misfortune from being drunker than reasonable, but medical effects of long-term heavy ethanol consumption.
Related, I’ve learned that the hospital sign for “this is a corpse” has upgraded from a written-on toe tag tied on with string to a printed one of those stick-to-itself plastic bracelets, which I guess makes sense but is ritually undistinguished
