Watched “Shades of Gray” and… I’m at a loss for words, honestly. Like, I went into this thinking “this doesn’t seem so bad, how come Let’s Watch Star Trek gave it a 0/5″ and then the clips started rolling and like…

I think the thing that makes it so much worse than any other clip show I’ve seen is how it fucked up in setting expectations. Like, if it had had your usual clip show framing device, like if it was the crew sitting around playing poker and talking about all their wild adventures on the Enterprise, well, it still would’ve been lazy and not-great, as all clip shows are, but I wouldn’t have expected anything else. But like, it started out having an actual plot! There was no indication that a quarter of the way through it would just give up and start showing us clips of old episodes until it happened. It’s like if you went to a fancy restaurant and ordered your food and had appetizers and everything was normal until the main course arrived and the waiter lifted the silver lid and underneath it was just a Big Mac in the original packaging.

Do they still do clip shows? (Do made-for-Netflix things where a whole season is plotted and shot at once do bottle episodes?)
