Reading stuff like “Blue Lives Matter is really about appreciating the utility of police as a society-shaping repressive force” and okay, plausible

What I’m reminded of was the post-9/11 “yay NYPD” stuff, which was striking to me because I did not have a sense of non-SI NYC as particularly pro-cop, from the organized crime of the Mafia and black gangs to Wall Street money-as-organizing-principle to just street level “I’m walking here!” navigators-of-chaos.

But really how much of that wasn’t so much about appreciating what they did on 9/11/2001 but what they did in the ‘90s, Giuliani Time lifting the city out of the Bad Old Days into cupcake consumer paradise?
