One of my favorite facts is that historically, commuter rail is a byproduct of the milk trains that were going from the countryside into the city each morning anyway
You still occasionally hear “milk run” for a remunerative but routine-and-unchallenging-to-the-point-of-trivial task. That was the milk run.
