I guess the logic is that if it belongs to no one it belongs to everyone. I have no idea, I'm not a marxist.
Just had the flash that that felt intuitively wrong (I would have said by my own guillotine) and in unpacking it realized that was because the verb, beheading is performed by the guillotine from above, which does not correspond to any grammatical distinction I know of but feels significant
