seriously though it’s way past time for you Americans to fix your political system
Trump isn’t the problem, just a symptom of your two-party insanity
Rhetoric aside, I think a lot of people noticed just how crazy a two-party democracy can get, and this election season (early on) we had a significant amount of people rooting for tertiary parties. Remember Gary Johnson? Jill Stein? For a while, there was Bernie as an independent too. It certainly doesn’t fix the fact that the crazies took advantage of the two party system, but the divide in the Democratic party between the “centrists”/reformists/classical liberals/neo-classical liberals and the radical/revolutionaries/socialists/marxists/etc. could be enough to drive that split, if not for the libertarian/authoritarian divides of the country.
at least splitting the parties would deescalate some of the more extreme cultural weirdness you’ve got going on

You know what’s the polar opposite system, where there are such low barriers to new political parties and no coordinating force to hold them to ideological consistency so everything’s a patronage-glued assembly of scores of factions?
