Grow up being told you’ve statistically got some of the best reading/writing/pattern recognition of your generation, read or write for a combined average of like 8 hours a day for three decades with periodic guidance from talented mentors, forego a lot else in your life but somehow never really want for anything.
After about 10 years you start seeing the nonobvious connections between what you read and something else you remember, after about 20 years you start seeing what the 2-step connections would have to be between them if there were, so you can look into it.
I guess I can serve as some of the reading material and possibly the guidance, I’ve made a list of (mostly American) history books that left an impression here.
