It’s just occurred to me that Steve Rogers is the American version of the “sleeping King under a mountain” myth.
With the interesting cultural twist, now that I think about it, that instead of being ever asleep and waiting to rise again, comic book time puts him in a permanent state of having been recently awakened from his slumber and ready to restore justice to the world.
