Other thing I’ve noticed about Top 40 radio - yeah, pop’s gotten a lot more rap…pish in the past decade or so, but rap’s also got a lot more poppy. At this point it seems the real distinction between (pop-) rap and rock is whether the vocals service the rhythm or the melody, and whether the pattern-break 2/3s through is a bridge or a guest verse.
