The thing about Trader Joe’s is their wheelhouse is “satisfyingly feed one 20-50 childless possibly downwardly mobile college graduate with no prep whatsoever, or two to several with no prep that assumes any kitchen skills”, and they hit it really well
They also used to have “office worker who wants to cheap out on lunch but doesn’t want to settle for sandwiches” covered.
Oh yeah, their lunch cases are the best around by far

Like, I always used to plan too long-term, in Spiderweb games (Exile/Avernum) I’d always clear out the first goblin caves and keep going back to pick up every least valuable loot, like the rocks that weren’t even ranged equippable until after Nethergate, to haul back to town and sell and then buy all the skills the pay-trainer offered up to fill before I moved on
Which crosses very productively with the thing where I can game contemporary trends put to tell where they’ll eventually end up
Which is maybe part of how it works out that I am now more amazingly well-positioned than I could ever imagine.
Like, in 1999 I was like “anime, happy hardcore, JRPGs, and Daft Punk is the important stuff going on” and with the benefit of hindsight was I wrong?
Basically my experience right now is that my very first diagnosis of social cycles and history in like my late ‘90s teens was 100% correct and all my attempts to live in line with my understanding of them finally succeeded perfectly and I won like, life
Like that sounds so comical but instead of just dismissing it that spurs me to prod at its weakest point but it doesn’t yield

Because of long covid now Taylor Lorenz can never win a culture fight against anyone outside her circle with a minimum of awareness and I think that’s beautiful

Also to anyone complaining about countries devoting resources to this sub, the US maintains deep sea capabilities for reasons of state, which includes deep sea rescue capabilities mostly relating to the SLBM leg of the nuclear triad, this was a free practice scenario and like, enrichment for those guys.
Just remembered that in our elementary school pull-out gifted program, which in 2nd grade I was the only member of my class in (but by 6th was 2 sweeps of dealership owners’ kids) was called “PEN” for “Program for Enrichment”, and sometimes we’d do these bonus-worksheets-for-smart-kids labeled “Enrich” at the top and I always read that (like, out loud) as the German name “Einrich”

So yeah all this time the girl I dated senior year of college, after stealing her from my sophomore housemate, the one who I visited with in Brooklyn Heights on breaks, has remained my favorite girlfriend in record even as she – and especially, I – have become people who would not be good matches today

Bartender tonight I’ve seen around since I first came to Portland, and on the one hand genuine honor and deference to him but on the other like, you’ve been a sempai the whole time but I’m 40 now and I’m here cause it’s the bar within walking distance of my house with the best burgers, what’s your excuse?
I mean my excuse is I’m a wealthy heir, but that’s normal
