How much care an elder needs depends heavily upon the elder, themself. My elderly relatives vary between each other in terms of mobility, access to funds, and mental acquity. I think the author confuses “I love them, so I want to care for them,” with obligation, to an extent. They’re choosing to take care of an elder, and choosing to care about the loss of their social net. Own your choices.
